Lennie Needs An Outfit For A Celebrity Vineyard Party

Lennie reached out for outfit suggestions for an upcoming event. Here’s her message:

Sarah, I am looking for some outfit advice for an event I have coming up in April. I am headed to Washington state for a spring release party for the winery owned by actor, Stephen Amell. First of all, the petite plus size clothing market is pretty limited where I live in Idaho. However, my biggest challenge is the desire to be comfortable yet snazzy and in an environment where the spring weather is completely unpredictable. Any advice and suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

I’m so excited to help you find an outfit for this event, Lennie! When you said “casual fancy” in the subject line and “comfortable yet snazzy”, my mind immediately went to jumpsuits, prints, and saturated colors. There are several directions that your look could go, so I’ve categorized my thoughts to help you find what will work best for your budget and style.

Layers

Spring weather anywhere can be unpredictable, but I suspect that Washington in April can still be especially chilly. While a basic trench is part of any capsule wardrobe, there are a few fancy options, as well as kimonos and a printed tie waist jacket that would be a great update to any black dress or jumpsuit that you might own.

Jumpsuits

If you want to go out in public feeling like you’re wearing pajamas while making everyone think you’ve tried, try a jumpsuit. They’re a great (and warmer) alternative to a dress and printed styles feel more playful than solid colors. You mentioned that you’re petite, so a romper might also be an option as well.

Dresses

There are so many quintessentially spring dresses out right now that it’s tough to pick a favorite. Traditional patterns like gingham are fun to accessorize, while bold colors always feel fresh. Don’t count out floral prints or polka dots either; they are classics for a reason.

Accessories

There’s no better way to make a basic outfit snazzy than with accessories. I’m personally delighted that bold, colorful statement earrings are back because they are a great way of amping up the kinds of basic outfits that we plus size ladies are so used to settling for. Hopefully, that isn’t the case for any of us, and especially at your event, Lennie, but it’s safe to say we’ve all been there.

I hope these suggestions have been helpful and if you don’t pick any of the items I’ve recommended, that this post will at least have been a good starting place for your search. Please tag me in your Instagram photos from the event. I can’t wait to see what you wear!
