An American's Guide To Shopping UK Drugstore Beauty
Superdrug & Boots are filled with hidden makeup, skincare, and haircare gems that we can't get in the United States
UK Drugstore Beauty Hidden Gems
Although the internet makes us feel that everything is available at our fingertips, there are still so many hidden gems that we only have access to in person.
This exclusivity has spawned cult favorites and has even led to successful British brands launching stateside.
If you are making a trip to the UK, take this list with you to Boots & Superdrug.
L'Oreal Elnett Creme De Mousse
For decades, savvy business owners & eagle-eyed editors smuggled cans of banned Elnett hairspray into America.
Since Elnett was introduced to the US market in 2009, it doesn't hold quite the same allure, but Europe does still have a full Elnett product line, including Creme De Mousse, a high hold mouse for those of us who want sky-high hair.
Maybelline Dr. Rescue Nail Polish Remover
Think all nail polish removers are the same? Think again.
This acetone-free nail polish remover swiftly & easily removes any trace of nail polish while somehow keeping your cuticles and nail bed hydrated. Maybelline attributes the moisturizing properties to avocado oil, but I think that the chemists may also be magicians, too.
Bourjois Little Round Pot Blushes
These blushes have such a cult following that a innocent curiosity turned into a full blow obsession after my first purchase.
The magic of these blushes comes from a trio of qualities: the domed, baked formula, small clamshell packaging, and the included brush.
Each shade varies in pigmentation & finish, but discovering your favorite is half the fun
Bourjois Healthy Mix Range
For those of us who are a certain age *cough* elder millennials *cough* may remember a time in the early days of YouTube when there wasn't a haul video that didn't include at lease one Bourjois Healthy Mix product.
The hype was warranted. The textures of this line look like skin while leaving your skin looking glowy & healthy.
As with all ranges, some products perform better than others. The Gel Foundation & pressed powder were particular standouts for me.
Bonus: magazines on the newsstand come with presents!
Can we please bring this method of advertising to the US?
Every issue of Marie Claire or Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, or any other women's title comes wrapped with beauty products.
During my six month visit, I received two Charlotte Tilbury products, an eyelash curler, nail polish, lip balm, hand cream, and more! The Charlotte Tilbury sheet mask alone sells for $22!
