The Pixi Glow Tonic Is A Cult-Favorite For A Reason

As an avid watcher of beauty videos on YouTube, I’ve heard whispers about the Pixi Glow Tonic for years. It was what fueled my use of products like Nuance Beauty’s Daily Resurfacing Pads, Dr. Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Glow Pads, Mario Badescu’s Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. I had varying levels of success with various products, so I was unconvinced that the Pixi Glow Tonic could be as good as everyone made it out to be.

Except it actually is that good.

From the moment I swiped it across my skin on a cotton pad, I could tell that it was different from all the other products that I’ve tried. Firstly, it’s an astringent (and not the Sea Breeze variety we used in the 90s) and not a toner, so it’s better for oily to combination skin types or acne-prone skin. It’s also alcohol-free, so it won’t sting. The ingredient list is rather simple, with MVPs like aloe, ginseng, and 5% glycolic. If your skin is sensitive or not used to acids, you may want to take it slowly by diluting the solution with a few drops of water with use or only using it a few times per week. But, if you’re like me and acid happy, then you’re going to want to dive right in.

There are three key areas the Pixi Glow Tonic impacted: the appearance of pore size, breakouts, and texture.  As my personal skincare savior (and Glow Tonic devotee) Caroline Hirons will remind us, you can’t really reduce the size of your pores. You can clean them, or reduce their visible appearance, but pores are a requirement of the living. I prefer to use Glow Tonic in the morning because it reduces the appearance of my pores & helps my makeup to go on more smoothly.

I’ve always had rough texture around my cheekbones from clogged pores and breakouts, no matter how many exfoliating toners or peel pads that I’ve used. Glow Tonic is quite literally the only thing to improve the texture of my skin. In the same vein, it also reduces the size and flakiness of any breakouts, though there are significantly less since I’ve started using it. I even take it down onto my chest where the same results were replicated.

A pro tip given to me by Amanda Bell, Pixi’s makeup artist, was to run the remainder of the product on the cotton pad across my lips to help exfoliate them. Not only has that worked like a dream, but it’s helped with the clogged pores I’ve been suffering from along my lip line. Because of this genius, I’m thinking of all the other places I could use Glow Tonic, like my armpits and inner thighs. Clogged pores are real.

The big news surrounding Glow Tonic is that it’s now available at Target, both online and in stores, in a 3.4-ounce travel-friendly bottle. I’ve seen supersized bottles available on home shopping channels and the Pixi website in limited quantities. If you’re a fan, keep an eye out!

Add Glow Tonic to my list of holy grail products. (Yes, mom, you can borrow some the next time you visit.)
