The Eyeshadow & Lipstick Kit For Taupe Lovers Everywhere

When I opened the PR box from MAC, I hadn’t seen any preview images of Destination Diva, the fourth collaboration between MAC & YouTuber PatrickStarrr. Inside was the Oh No She Betta Don’t Kit, which includes an eyeshadow quad and RetroMatte Liquid Lipstick for $42.50. After looking at the two kits in the collection, I’m delighted to have received the one containing the Sugah Mama Eyeshadow Quad, a cool-toned palette featuring an ideal crease color for my skin tone, taupe shimmer, olive shimmer, and deep matte brown. The included liquid lipstick, in Ultimate Diva, is a deep neutral that is reminiscent of the MAC classic lipstick Velvet Teddy.

The top two eyeshadows in the quad and the lipstick remind me of Dior’s beloved Grege eyeshadow quint, nail polish, lip liner, and lipstick, much of which has now been discontinued. For the unfamiliar, these shades tend to lean cool and navigate the thin line between brown and taupe in varying shades.

For my skin tone and shade preferences, the lightest matte shadow, Sugah Mama, is a perfect crease shade. I had no problems applying it in my crease with a large fluffy brush, though I do find that I have to pack it on with a pencil brush along my lower lash line. It’s pressed hard in the pan and reminds of MAC shadows circa 2008, which I don’t mind.

The metallic taupe, Deception, applied easily to my lid but didn’t pack a vibrant punch that many of us expect from shimmer shadows these days. This shade previously appeared in the Aaliyah collaboration, which I wasn’t fond of, and isn’t getting great reviews. I don’t have the same reaction to this shade that many others seem to be having. It delivered exactly as I hoped it would to create a grungey, blown-out, 90s eye.

I used the slightest touch of First Class, the deep matte brown, to line my upper lash line and deepen the outer edges of my eye. As for Damn She Olive, I haven’t had too many opportunities to wear it, but if you’re a fan of green eyeshadows, I’m sure you’re as excited as I am to see it in this quad.

The RetroMatte Liquid Lipstick in Ultimate Diva is described as a cool dude, but on my light skin tone, it looks very warm. As I mentioned earlier, the shade is a deeper, more intense version of Velvet Teddy. If that’s a tone that you enjoy wearing and are interested in a liquid lipstick in the same shade, you’ll likely be happy with this color as well.

If I hadn’t received the Oh No She Betta Don’t kit in PR, I might have overlooked it in entirely. Since these photos were taken, I have continued to reach for this kit over & over again on days when I want something neutral & straightforward. This kit isn’t a statement-maker, but it’s a fantastic buy for neutral lovers who want a fall update in shades they’re comfortable with.

These everyday staples are the types of purchases that I wish that people would talk about more, but that’s another rant for another day. Do any of the items from this round PatrickStarrr collaborations appeal to you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Love that green shade! I'm going to have to pull the trigger on that palette.
