What Other Reviews Aren’t Telling You About CoverGirl’s Skin Milk Foundation

In the current state of the beauty industry, releasing a sheer coverage foundation could be interpreted as a risky move. Most YouTube and Instagram content creators prefer medium to full coverage foundations and artistic, attention-grabbing looks, with a scant few focusing on everyday beauty. In this CoverGirl Skin Milk Foundation review ($11.99 at Ulta) I’ll explain why this formula promises – and delivers – sheer coverage that evens the skin tone, added hydration, and an all-day dewy finish.

Shade Range

Personally, I’ve never been fond of sheer coverage products – my disdain for Glossier’s Skin Tint comes to mind – but after swatching Skin Milk on my hand, the thicker viscosity gave me hope. I received all 14 shades from CoverGirl in PR and narrowed down my two possible shades to Fair/Light & Light. After wearing both, I recommend going a step up if you’re between two shades.

How To Apply

For providing sheer coverage, Skin Milk surprisingly evened out my skin tone and has a luminous, dewy finish that lasts all day. Although CoverGirl describes this product as a foundation, I recommend treating it more like a skin tint and skipping a standard foundation primer. I recommend using a lighter weight moisturizer (recommended: Origins VitaZing SPF 15 Moisturizer, $39.50) on normal skin types to increase longevity & to avoid becoming too dewy.

I increased coverage around my nose and chin with CoverGirl’s TruBlend Undercover Concealer ($11.99, Ulta), applied the new Clean Fresh Cream Blush ($10.99, Ulta, limited edition) in Innocence, and finished the look with the new Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Oil ($10.49, CVS exclusive) in Quench for a low maintenance look. Surprisingly, I don’t feel the need to set either the concealer or foundation with powder.
